It’s finally here!

My fabric line, debuting at Quilt Market, May 15-17, 2009! A dream of mine come true!

As we celebrate Mother’s Day tomorrow, the timing seems so fitting. My Mom was a wonderful seamstress who sewed almost all of my clothing from the time I was very little, up until I was getting married and having babies. She was not only a sewer, but a talented designer, often incorporating unusual and trendy accents, embellishments and one of a kind stylings. She made my prom dress using pink floral chinz with gingham ruffles going down the front of the skirt, vertically, placed about 8″ apart. The top was a halter top, the outfit was a total departure from what everyone else was wearing and way ahead of the trend curve for that year. I still have the outfit, maybe I’ll dig it out from the back of the closet and photograph it this week. Of course, it will be hanging on a hanger, not on my body! I can’t believe how tiny I was then, where’s that skinny little girl go, anyway? I’m digressing…sorry. Mom had a stash of beautiful fabrics, a few pieces of which I still own and have yet to cut into. I’m sure I never will, they’re just too precious.

Here’s my fabric collection, done in two colorways which are complimentary so they do work together beautifully! It seemed appropriate to photograph the fabric in a setting which includes some family heirlooms passed down from my Grandmother.

I bought a purse pattern today and plan on making one up this week. My Mom would be so proud of me today. I know she’s looking down and smiling her biggest smile. I sure do miss her, she’s been gone for a long time. I do have a wonderful, loving Mother in Law which helps fill the void.

Here’s my Mom at 17 years old, her High School graduation picture. helenAnd here’s me, wearing a dress my Mom made me for my third grade picture. brenda-in-3rd-gradeDon’t laugh, we worked hard on that hair!

Happy Mother’s Day, everyone.

Have a really wonderful Mothers Day and hope you are thoroughly spoilt. Have to say you really do look like your Mom and I am certain she would be very proud of you! That fabric would make for gorgeous cushions in my craft area as it would go with your papercraft lines so well. Congratulations on a dream realised.

Enjoyed this post so much… My Mom is a beautiful seamstress too- she made my wedding gown in 1992 via long distance- a whole country apart! I was in AB, she in NB! When I arrived home, the ONLY change we had to make was the sleeve length (needed to shorten them.) CAN you imagine!? LOL

Enjoyed reading abt your memories and seeing the pics. Have a wonderful day- and again, BIG congratulations. So very excited for you! ~ Ali from Nova Scotia
